Chewy Café

Welcome to the Chewy Café - a hip, fun, new curriculum-based learning tool focusing on nutrition and cooking skills! The Chewy Café is designed to be used within the classroom, in after-school programs, as part of a school-wide enrichment program, at home, or in organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club. Based on Arkansas frameworks for education in health, fitness, language arts, science, math and writing, each program contains entertaining and educational information that is intriguing and easy to use. So come on in and share the cool world of cooking, choosing and learning about healthy food with your students.

The Chewy Café is:

* Eleven 20-minute programs on DVD featuring our wacky Chef Mack and his assistants - some pretty smart kids who come to learn how to cook, prepare and choose healthy food, but who often end up teaching Mack a thing or two! Each Chewy program can be shown in segments, to allow for 'teaching moments' so you can use the handy discussion points, workpages or activity ideas from the curriculum, or it can be shown in it's entirety.

* A full, bound Curriculum for each program, complete with worksheets, information and more. Each curriculum is a treasure trove of ideas, information and fun learning activities.

* The Book of Chew - A downloadable mini-cookbook with fun, easy, kid-friendly recipes, cooking tips, cooking shortcuts and great ideas! The Book of Chew was written by Diane Abrams, Director, Gourmet Books. All recipes were reviewed by nutritionists such as Carole Garner, MPH, RD, LD, Assistant Professor, UAMS College of Public Health and Robin Kline MS, RD, CCP of Savvy Food Communications.

* Chewycafe.com - An exciting website (you’re on it) for kids to check for healthy snack ideas for themselves, their families and friends. Filled with great research ideas, a fun game and lots of surprises, chewycafe.com offers kids a chance to see the recipes being made. Explore nutrition and find lots of good research information your students can use at the Energy Factory. Want a conversation about why, exactly, eggs are extra good for you? Look at the Top 20 Foods. Want to suggest some healthy snacks for an after-school program? Watch DJ Saute and Papa Rap cookin' up some fun on the Chewy Snack Segments!

The Chewy Cafe is incredibly fortunate to have received generous supporting grants from The Care Foundation and the Blue and You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas, to fund Chewy Café development.
