CHEW-Wii Moves!

Getting physical makes you feel good about yourself!

Hey – who says all computer games are bad? Not Chewyville!

In fact, if you play the right computer games, you can rev up your heart, burn calories and lose weight! Check this out: Some smart folks from Britain at John Moore University figured out that you can burn up to 1,830 calories in one week by playing WII for about an hour a day!

So what else can you do to kick up your energy and burn some calories? Try these Chewy Moves:

  • Dancing for 30 minutes burns up to 205 calories
  • Backpacking for 30 minutes burns up to 200 calories
  • Bicycling for 30 minutes burns up to 185 calories
  • Walking for 30 minutes burns up 91 calories
  • Playing basketball for 30 minutes burns up 150 calories
  • Even chewing gum can burn calories – up to 11 per hour!

Moving your body by running, jumping, walking and playing gives you energy, makes your
muscles stronger and helps you feel good about yourself. Moving for 60 minutes every day is a
great goal. But don't worry if that seems like too much to do at one time. Try doing your moves
for just 10 minutes, but do them at least a few times each day. See how many 10-minute moves
you can do each day, like during a homework break or while you're watching TV. Do your
favorite thing or try one of the ideas below. If you want to do more than 10 minutes at a time,
you'll feel even better!

  • Turn on your favorite music and dance OR Skip rope!
  • Walk to a friend's house that's a few blocks away OR Walk the dog!
  • Go outside and rake leaves, pull weeds or sweep the sidewalk!
  • Do inside chores like vacuuming, dusting or emptying the garbage.
  • Do jumping jacks for one minute, march in place for one minute and step up and down a stair for one minute. Repeat until 10 minutes are up.
  • Play tag with your younger brother or sister OR In-line skate.
  • Do part of an exercise tape OR Ride an exercise bike
  • Shoot baskets in the driveway or at the rec center.
  • Practice the Hula-Hoop OR Kick a soccer ball.
  • If your parents say it’s OK, you can jog around the block!
